The dynamical structure of broken power-law and double power-law models for dark matter haloes

Galaxy kinematics and gravitational lensing are two complementary ways to constrain the distribution of dark matter on galaxy scales. The typical density profiles adopted in dynamical studies cannot easily be studies. Ideally, a mass model should used that has global characteristics realistic distributions, allows for an analytical calculation magnifications deflection angles. A simple with these properties, broken-power-law (BPL) model, very recently been introduced. We examine structure family BPL models. derive closed expressions basic study function under assumption velocity isotropy. find none models parameters isotropic is positive over entire phase space, implying supported by distribution, or more radially anisotropic orbital structure. This result limits attractiveness as tool some degree. More generally, we not all members general double power-law Zhao models, often haloes, can function. In other words, may become negative even spherically symmetric well-behaved profile.
